Try your hand at Salmon and Trout fishing.

The River Shannon, abundant in many types of fish and shellfish was a source of food for the people of Glin and the Surrounding parishes during the 1800's.Over the years the picturesque and peaceful village of Glin has become a popular angling resort. Anglers from far and wide can testify to the rewarding catches yielded by the river Shannon. The Shannon Region is dominated by water and the profusion of lakes rivers and streams in the region make it a veritable paradise for anglers.

The following is a general guide to the types of fishing on offer.

River Cashen Ballybunion; The river Cashen is located past Ballybunion golf club and park your car beside the sand dunes. There can be surf fishing for bass when conditions are suitable, flooding tide and lugworm as bait are the best combination.

River Feale Listowel Co. Kerry. The best time to fish for salmon is between March and April and again in August and September. It is best to fish for seatrout in April, July August and September subject to water levels.

Kilteery Pier Glin; Kilteery Pier is located 2 miles outside Glin Between Glin and Loughill. There is a large car park at the pier. Bottom fishing using fish bait, crab and lugworm produces thornback ray, flounder, plaice, bullhuss, dogfish, and conger. Many fish can be caught in darkness when the water levels are low, so a drop net is essential. The flooding tide to high water is the most productive period.
